DB Zipper V2

Data Sheet

Easily Deploy, Migrate and Archive your Database Tables (Cross-Database)

DB Zipper is a database tool that processes table data and table structures from any database into a compressed database archive file (*.dbz). With DB Zipper you can extract your (selected) tables from the database archive file to any supported target database.

Adding tables. When adding database tables to a DB Zipper database archive, the complete table with data and structure information will be added. A DB Zipper database archive is a compressed file (*.dbz) which can hold table data and structure information for multiple database tables. One database archive can also contain tables from different databases.

Extracting tables. You can extract your (selected) tables from the database archive file to any supported target database. This means that you can for example add a MS Access table to the database archive and extract the table later to an Oracle database.

Database Independent Archive Files

Database archive files are "archives" used for distributing and storing database tables. One database archive can hold tables from multiple databases. A database archive file is database independent. With DB Zipper you can extract the tables in a the archive file to any supported database.

Compressed data. Data in an archive file is compressed. This means that you reduce storage overhead and that you can distribute it faster and more easily. Database archive files can be archived, e-mailed, checked into source control, etc.

Easy-to-Use, Familiar User Interface

DB Zipper is exceptionally easy-to-use and it works like the regular compression applications for files but instead of files DB Zipper works with database tables. A wizards will help you connection to the database and adding tables.

Multiple Usage Scenarious

Move your database from A to B. Add tables from database A to a database archive and extract the added tables to database B.

Simple backup and restore solution. DB Zipper makes it very easy to backup your data in your database. Backups will be small because the data will be compressed. Database archive files can be archived, e-mailed, checked into source control, etc.

Translate database tables from database type A to B. Add tables from database type A (for example Oracle) to a database archive and extract the tables to a database from type B (for example MS SQL Server). DB Zipper works database independent. When extracting a table, DB Zipper can create table and/or append/insert data for any of the supported databases (MySQL, Oracle, InterBase, MS SQL Server, Firebird, MS Access, DBISAM 4, NexusDB 2).

Deploy your databases. Create a database archive, add tables and place the compressed archive file on the Internet or send it by e-mail to your clients. Your client can then unpack/extract the tables from the archive to their database.

Multiple Ways to Extract Tables

The Extract action defines how tables must be extracted. You've got the following options:

Always create new table
1. Create a new table. Name of new table must be unique. If a table with the name already exists, a new name will be generated. This new name will be the original table name followed by a number (for example Customers2).
2. Insert data into newly created table.

Append (append data to existing table)
1. Create table if table does not exist.
2. Append data to already existing or created table.

Refill (empty table and insert data)
1. Create table if table does not exist.
2. Empty table if table exists.
3. Insert data into the empty table or the newly created table.

Overwrite (drop table, create new table and insert data)
1. Drop table if table exists.
2. Create a new table.
3. Insert data into newly created table.
