About Datanamic

Hazerswoude - 21 July 2003 - Datanamic Solutions today announced DeZign for Databases V3, a significant upgrade to its powerful, easy-to-use database design and modeling product. This new release offers powerful sub-diagram management facilities, a complete new look and feel, many new and enhanced modeling features, a new scripting engine and support for stored procedures and triggers.

DeZign for Databases is a database development tool using an entity relationship diagram. It provides full support for ER-modeling (Entity-Relationship) techniques. DeZign for Databases visually supports the layout of entities and relationships and automatically generates most popular SQL and desktop databases.

DeZign for Databases supports the logical and physical data-level from a single specification achieved by using automatic foreign key migration at design-time. DeZign for Databases will display model information at various levels. These display modes can be used at various stages of model development or for conveying model information in abstract form or varying depths of detail. Reports generated by DeZign for Databases can be used to convey complex designs in simplified format to managers at various management levels.

"We have listened carefully to our users. DeZign for Databases V3 contains all the functionality professional database designers could wish for", says Company Director R. van Dijk. "The launch of this new version provides a package that is able to hold its own with all the 'big names'. The only difference is the price: DeZign for Databases costs only a fraction of the price you pay for competing data modeling packages."

New features

With the new user interface it has become even easier to design large data models. Selecting an entity in the Object Browser immediately brings the focus on the corresponding entity in the diagram. A double-click opens the entity dialog to add attributes or to make other changes. Adding an object is very easy: select an object from the toolbar, then point and click where you want the object to appear. In version 3 you can also apply different colors to each individual object in a diagram.

DeZign for Databases V3 extends your modeling power with regard to subdiagrams. A project is a set of one or more subdiagrams that contains the specification of an entire data model. You can divide a large or complex model into smaller, easier-to-maintain subdiagrams.

The new version of DeZign for Databases also introduces the ability to write your own templates. DeZign for Databases includes an integrated scripting engine that uses templates or scripts to generate files like SQL schemas or XML output. The templates contain a pascal-like language. DeZign for Databases already supports the generation including Oracle, MySQL, Interbase, Sybase, MS SQL Server, MS Access, DB2, Paradox, FoxPro, Clipper, PostgreSQL and Pervasive SQL, and by adding a new template you can easily add support for other databases as well.

DeZign for Databases V3 now supports triggers and stored procedures. You can write the trigger code in the target database's dialect or let DeZign for Databases generate trigger code to simulate autonumbering behavior.

System requirements and database support

DeZign for Databases runs on Win32 platforms including Windows NT (3.51 & 4.0) and Windows 95, 98/ME, 2000 and XP. DeZign for Databases supports Oracle, MySQL, Interbase, Sybase, MS SQL Server, MS Access, DB2, Paradox, FoxPro, Clipper, PostgreSQL, DBISAM, Advantage DB and Pervasive SQL.

Pricing and availability

DeZign for Databases V3 software is available for US $229. Current users of DeZign for Databases may upgrade for US $119. DeZign for Databases is available from the Datanamic corporate Web site at https://www.datanamic.com/dezign.
